Traditionally the U.S. economy is based on laissez-faire business practice with little government involvement. During the Cold War period, the economic policies of American presidents focussed on economic aids for and cooperation among allied nations because the U.S. was preoccupied with \"containing\" Soviet influence. After the Cold War, the U.S. economic policy was based on \"Reaganomics,\" ie., a small government with deregulation of economic activities. The next policy was \"Clintonomics,\" which invited more government involvement in the economy. Clintonomics was successful in boosting the economy by investing in human resources, especially in Information Technology (IT)-rerated industryes.
