The English education system in South Korea overall has shown better results than that of Japan, one striking example of this being South Koreans consistently receiving higher scores than Japanese do on the TOEFL. The author believes that the Korean people's eagerness to learn English is one of the primary factors which accounts for their better performance in the language. Other factors may include their revised curriculum and the beginning of English instruction at a younger age. The new \"English Village\" project may now be an additional factor. Due to the keen desire of Koreans to learn English, the \"English Village\" project was established.
