This study used a sample of 28 students who took \"Report Writing Class\". The students assessed their own achievement, using the same criteria before the first class and after the final class. The teacher similarly used the same criteria used by students after reading their final essays. The student's results and teacher's results are compared and contrasted. The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, the students showed weaknesses in the areas of plagiarism, citing in the passage and cohesion of sentence. Secondly, according to pre/post results, the students showed most progress regarding listingcited works and instructions for writing numbers and English in Japanese language. Thirdly, both assessment by the teacher and assessment by the students showed assessment results were not always consistent and reliable due to varying individual student's criteria standard and non-repeated assessment of the teacher. Lastly, combining analytic assessment and holistic assessment was considered to measure achievement objectives.
