Moreover, their marriages do not last for a long time (7.4 years average), and they are prone to remain in poverty. Welfare workers in N city have not perceived precisely the educational support needed by the children of single-mother households, their worries, or their stresses. However, some caseworkers who assist single-mothers and their children on a daily basis and a social supporter who guides children toward independence do recognize their financial problems, poor educational environment, declines in academic performances, school maladaptation, and chain reactions caused by poverty. Although these perceptions were given by caseworkers who are in welfare administration, they may reflect educational support needed by the children of single-mothers. M University students studying in teacher-training course endorsed the caseworkers’ views and started volunteering as teachers for those children on welfare.
