Phylogenetic analysis of these populations based on the whole mitochondrial DNA is conducted in the research. Echinometra species collected in Okinawa, Guam, and Hawaii, as well as mitochondrial DNA of E. vanbrunti and Strongylocentrotus purpuratus as outgroups, were used as samples for DNA analysis. Among the relation of E. oblonga from Okinawa, Guam, and Hawaii, it is suggested that Okinawan and Hawaiian are under speciation process.
