The textbooks printed at the textbook compilation office in Ishikawa were mimeographed copies. This paper examines the mimeographed English textbooks－how they were compiled, what they contained, and how well they were distributed. The first section briefly describes the state of the elementary school education system implemented just after the war. The second section describes the compilation of textbooks, policies surrounding them, their organization, and the members who compiled them. The third section explains difficulties regarding the distribution situation. The characteristics of the two English textbooks used in elementary schools from 1949 to 1951 are briefly described in the fourth section.
