Semi-structured interviews were performed with the staff members in charge of the education and training for volunteers in three mental health and welfare centers in Okinawa Prefecture. A qualitative and inductive approach was employed to analyze the data. The results of the interview survey from six research participants extracted the following desired support items from mental health and welfare volunteers: “cleaning of gomi-yashiki (a house overflowing with garbage), which cannot gain public support”; “community interaction programs with related people organized by area”; “greeting and watching at an appropriate distance”; “providing their skills to day care activities in a psychiatric hospital”; and “participation in activities in a center for people with mental disorders.” Furthermore, the analyzed data of two of the centers suggested that in the current situation of seeking volunteers, when the centers recruited mental health and welfare volunteers, they had no applicants. Even when a person applied, they did not move towards performing volunteer activities. Countermeasures are required to encourage volunteers to continue activities. It is necessary to present volunteers with methods that mediate between the volunteers and people with mental disorders, and to support concrete involvements with the disabled. It was confirmed that continuous volunteer activities were not characterized as a one-to-one relationship, but rather as multiple volunteers’ participation, such as karaoke and cooking. The present study suggested that volunteer support conducted by a group with multiple members would enhance volunteer activity and could promote a better understanding of people with mental disorders, as well as improve the stability of volunteering when there might be prejudice or fear toward people with mental disorders.}, pages = {1--14}, title = {沖縄県における地域で活動する 精神保健福祉ボランティアの実践状況とボランティア支援者の思い}, year = {2020}, yomi = {キトウ, カズコ and スズキ, ケイコ} }
