The example is “Auji-Kyongin,” which belongs to the performing arts of “Tyoja-no-uhusyu,” transmitted to Taketomi Island in Yaeyama. Taketomi Island has passed down two classical types of the “Tyoja-no-uhusyu” called “Auji-Kyongin.”One is to perform at the “Tanetori-sai(種子取祭)” and the other is to perform at the “Kitugan-sai(結願祭).” The content and structure of the classical performing arts are the same. However, the most important prayer scenes in Kyongin can be divided into those in which the elders pray with magical words and lyrics and those in which they do not speak magical words and lyrics directly. This paper analyzed that distinction.\n As a result, it became clear that the past ritual situation was deeply related to the content and direction of the elders’ performing arts. First, at the “Kitugan-sai” performance of the “Auji-Kyongin,” the male elders pray with magical words and lyrics. This is because the “Kitugan-sai” was originally a ritual that was conducted mainly by male priests. At the “Tanetori-sai” performance of the “Auji-Kyongin,” male elders don’t speak magical words and lyrics.
