This study used 16 elementary school textbooks and 6 junior high school textbooks as well as elementary classroom observations. The results showed that sentence structures in elementary school textbooks do not play an important role, and they instead focused on familiar topics and objectives. From the beginning of junior high school, grammar rules and usage are explained explicitly and systematically by using grammar terms.
