It is an old controversy for Okinawans whether U.S. military bases are an advantage or disadvantage for the prefecture. However, the development of the northern region has grown in significance at both the prefectural and national levels since Camp Schwab has been selected as the site where Futenma Marine Airbase will relocate in the future.
