The two following research questions were set up. (1)Is the level of English of Korean textbooks about the same or higher than that of a Japanese textbook? (2)What are the characteristics of Korean textbooks and a Japanese textbook? The level of English taught is analysed using data on the vocabulary, the number and length of English sentences and the number of grammatical points introduced. As for the characteristics, important differences in the structure of the material are considered. The level of the Korean textbooks is found to be approximately equivalent to or higher than that of the Japanese textbook. However, the Korean textbooks have a more practical and functional structure compared to a stronger emphasis on reading and cultural understanding in the Japanese textbook.","subitem_description_type":"Other"},{"subitem_description":"昨年筆者は韓国の小学校で英語の授業を参観する機会があり、その時、韓国の小学校6年の英語のレベルは日本の中学校1年の英語のレベル以上であるという印象を抱いた。それが今回の(1) 韓国の小学校の英語の教科書は日本の中学校1年の英語の教科書のレベル以上であるか。(2)
