Although there are more than ten islets around Yagaji Island, a small number of pigeons (two to fbur individuals) was observed on only three islets surveyed except for Ufu-jima. The population of domestic Pigeons was estimated at 800-1,000 on Ufu-jima based on the number of pigeons moving between Yagaji Island and Ufu-jima. Pigeons started to fly to Yagaji Island at O5:38 (summer solstice) and at O7:13 (winter solstice) in the morning, and most pigeons returned to Ufu-jima at 17:50 (winter solstice). pigeons got some food only from the pig farm at Yagaji Island, 1,600m from Ufu-jima. Ufu-jima, consisting of a complicated system of lime rocks, was considered to offer suitable resting and nesting sites.
