 note = {パラオ共和国は第二次大戦後に生まれた11の国連信託統治領の一つだったが､1994年1月1日､アメリカと自由連合協定を結ぶ形で独立した｡世界でも名高い非核条項の憲法を持つ共和国だったが､50年間､島を軍事基地としてアメリカへ貸す条件で､50億ドルの援助金を獲得した｡そこには､独立を求める小国の問題が存在した｡パラオの独立へむけた政治過程を分析することで､小国の自立への課題を探る｡, Palau was the last remaining part of the United Nation's Trust Territory System. She became an independent republic by signing the Free Association Compact with the United States on January 1, 1994. Although Palau has a non-nuclear clause in her constitution which had been highly acclaimed internationally, she allowed the United States to build military bases on her territory for 50 years. On the other hand, she was successful in gaining a large amount of economic aid from the United States. Palau's political process toward independence shows several problems small island states encounter as they seek political autonomy.
