 note = {Japanese classical texts, especially The Tale of Genji contain rich narratives describing mononoke, possession by evil spirits. Scholars have interpreted mononoke phenomena in various ways, and this paper focuses on two critical approaches. One emphasizes the cultural perspective or "world view" of ancient Japanese. The other applies "universal" theoretical frameworks to interpret these phenomena. Although both approaches recognize mononoke as crucial to understanding Japanese classical texts, they pose different questions in their analyses., 日本の古典文学作品､特に『源氏物語』において、モノノケ(物怪)に関する描写は多く､様々な現象が語り手や登場人物の視点を通して語られる｡物怪の諸現象は多数の論者によって多様に解釈されているが､本稿では主として二つの解釈的傾向に着目した｡第一は､現象描写の背景となる生死や心身等に関わる世界観の特殊性を強調し､第二は､ある｢普遍的｣理論の枠組みをこの現象の解釈に適用するものである｡両者とも物怪が日本古典文学作品の総体において重要な一要素であるとする点では共通するが､個別の問題点を有するものと思われる｡},
