Yoshiharu Iwamoto (1863-1943), Sohō Tokutomi (1863-1957), Kanzō Uchimura (1861-1930) and Masahisa Uemura (1861-1963) discovered Wordsworth as a moral teacher in a Christian sense as well as a great Romantic poet. Through such journals as The Women's Journal, The Nation's Friend, The Critical Essays of Japan and The Gospel News Week, these Christian leaders introduced the poet's views on man, life and nature to Japanese readers so as to propagate Christian doctrines.
