 note = {The people of Okinawa had an unhappy history from 1945 to 1972 while under U.S. military government rule. However, during that time, they were able to learn about Americans and their culture. The period of U.S. occupation thus offered a unique opportunity for learning about American democracy as well as engaging in cultural exchange activities with Americans.
