| 内容記述 | 戦前から戦後にかけて、沖縄の字(集落)公民館では、字幼稚園と呼ばれる、保育・幼児教育施設が存在していた。本研究は、1963年に琉球政府が実施した調査の分析を通して、沖縄全域の字幼稚園の実態を明らかにした。沖縄の字幼稚園は、集落の相互扶助により生まれ出たものであり、字民が主体となって設立したものであった。また、公私立の保育園や幼稚園が未整備な地区では、字幼稚園が就学前の子どもの保育・教育を支える地域の教育組織として重要な役割を果たしていた。一方、字幼稚園の保母手当は保護者の負担であり、行政の支援も不十分であったため、園の運営状況は、不安定であった。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Community-based kindergartens existed at community centers in Okinawa before, during, and after World War II. This study describes and discusses the conditions of community-based kindergartens throughout Okinawa by analyzing investigations into kindergarten education completed by the Government of the Ryukyu Islands in 1963, The investigations done in 1963 revealed that community-based kindergartens were developed and established through the mutual support of community members working together. These community-based kindergartens played essential roles in nurturing young children and served as regional educational systems in areas where public and/or private kindergartens had not yet been established. Though serving an important role in educating young children, the management of community-based kindergartens tended to be unstable due to limited administrative support and a fee-paying structure which required parents to fund the salaries of kindergarten teachers. | |||||
