| 内容記述 | ワニタ・ワーターワース（Juanita Watterworth）は1950年から1960年の10年間，米国占領下の沖縄で琉球列島米国民政府（United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands: 以下USCAR）の看護顧問として，沖縄の看護や看護教育に影響を与えた。ワーターワースの残した功績は，琉球政府の医療行政や看護教育に携わった沖縄側の看護関係者の回想録などに多く記録されている。しかしUSCARの看護行政に携わった看護顧問17名の中で，最長滞在期間である10年にわたって沖縄に留まり，沖縄の看護に貢献したとされるワーターワース自身のものとされる発言の記録は少ない。そこで沖縄タイムス紙に掲載されているワーターワースの記事を，USCAR文書，占領下の看護をテーマとした研究，占領下にワーターワースとともに看護教育や行政に携わっていた琉球政府関係者・看護婦らの回想録とともにワーターワースの当時の沖縄の看護や看護教育についての考え等の記述がないか検討した。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Juanita Watterworth had served as a nursing advisor of the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands （USCAR） for 10 years from 1950 to 1960, and gave much impacts on Okinawan nursing and nursing education under the occupational period. The achievements that Watterworth left behind are recorded a lot in reminiscences of nursing officials who had engaged in medical administration and nursing education of the Ryukyu Government. Among the 17 nursing advisers who had engaged in nursing administration of USCAR, Watterworth had the longest stay period of 10 years and contributed to nursing in Okinawa. There are few records of remarks that are supposed to be owned by Watterworth herself, however. This paper is to find descriptions what Watterworth said regarding nursing and nursing education of Okinawa under the occupational period within the newspaper articles. In order to define her descriptions, the obtained articles are compared to the USCAR documents, research papers on the theme of occupied nursing, and reminiscences written by nurses who engaged nursing and nursing education with Watterworth. | |||||
