| 内容記述 | An outbreak of the crown-of-thorns starfish, Acanthaster planci, a major outbreak in recent years, occurred in the Coastal National Park of Onna village, the central western side of Okinawa Island, in September, 1996. The outbreak started in the area between Seragaki and Busena Cape, which is near Nago Bay. But an aggregation of A. planci later moved to a neighboring area as suggested by research done in September, 1996; extermination efforts in October, 1996; and two surveys conducted in March and from August to October, 1997. And althought the magnitude of this outbreak is 1/5 of the former outbreak in 1969, the area where the outbreak occurred and the distribution of aggregations after the outbreak are the same as in 1969. From these observations, it is hypothesized that the area from Seragaki to Busena Cape, Onna village, is the most likely area for A. planci outbreaks to occur, and that there is a certain moving route for A. planci. It is inferred that the number of A. planci living in Onna Coastal National Park is at the upper reach of the permitted renge (with more coral growing than perdation by A. planci) based on this area's extermination data for A. planci form the 1980's to the 1990's. Also discharge of land soil caused by housing and agricultural development probably had a deleterious effect on coral growth in this area. Therefore, the coral in this area was in a slow growth phase or a declining phase. This situation might have been replicated all along the coast around Okinawa Island. | |||||
